The Guitar Repair Workshop’s main repairman is Steve Curtis. He originally started in the workshop 20 years ago, employed on Saturdays to work on repairs/warranties, this was also the time he successfully obtained a BEng Hons in Audio Electronics from the University of Salford.
Previous to this he had gained several years experience as a precision engineer, invaluable when it comes to making specialist jigs and tools to perform the more tricky repairs.
On leaving University he worked for 2 years at Amek in Manchester, makers of Rupert Neve designed analogue and digital recording consoles, quickly progressing into the rack-mount test and repair department. During this time at Amek, Steve still kept up his role in the workshop. This soon led to him leaving Amek to take up full-time touring work as a guitar tech. After a wonderful time on tour the call of the workshop was too strong and Steve returned to develop the guitar repairs into a full time business.
The Guitar Repair Workshop is now a thriving business serving hundreds of customers per year with everything from a single string change to custom built acoustic instruments. Over the years the workshop has carried out repairs for most of the Manchester big names, including members of The Buzzcocks, New Order, The Smiths, James, Inspiral Carpets, The Happy Mondays, Doves, Elbow, The Courteeners, Ting Tings and many more.
We are also an authorized service centre for Gibson and Taylor guitars.
